Turn up your training in 2019
2019 has rolled around so quickly! Many of us will now be coming back from our summer holiday breaks and getting back into our gym routines. For some this may include easing back into the gym and for some it may be bouncing straight back in. But for many people this will include carrying on with the same programme and the same routine as you did before Christmas.
Continuing with the same routine and same programme that you have been doing for the last 6 months is not going to help you lose that last bit of weight, increase your fitness quickly or bring back that motivation you lost. Now is the perfect time to change up your routine and challenge yourself and push your body to reach its highest potential.
Here are some great ideas of ways to create some change within your workout routine and really push yourself to have the best state of body physically and mentally by the end of 2019!
Challenge yourself to make a bucket list of 4-5 new things you want to try before the end of 2019 and try to make these things you have never done before or things that push you outside of your comfort zone. Thinking of 4-5 ideas is a realistic goal and will encourage you to really think about what you are wanting to achieve physically or mentally this year.
This could include trying out a new class by the end of the year which is a realistic goal and easy to achieve! Or you could try something a little more long term which will really challenge you. For example, if yoga is something you are passionate about how about doing a yoga course to increase your knowledge. This is something that will change up your routine and push yourself mentally.
Or perhaps you have been doing the same 5 leg exercises twice a week for the last year, but you are wondering why you aren't feeling much progress? That’s because your body has adapted and gotten use to what you are doing. If you have been doing the same weighted exercises you are no longer putting your body under positive stress which creates change. It is a good idea to change it up, try adding some plyometric exercises, some full body exercises or some unilateral exercises. If you are sticking to the same exercises try doing plyometric exercises such as squat jumps, box jumps or adding single sided exercises such as single leg squats or pistol squats to push yourself!
If you always do your own weights programme why not try an FCT or TRX class, where you try new equipment and have a structured class from one of our Personal Trainers. If you often do Spin how about you try a Yoga class and focus on both the physical and mental benefits of this form of exercise. Or if you are in a rut and not sure where to go, book in with one of our Personal Trainers to create some change in your routine and chat about positive changes you can make to your routine to motivate and better yourself in the New Year.
My last tip for creating change with your workouts is changing up your routine frequency. If you are coming into the gym twice a week for 30-minute sessions, why not try 2 45-minute sessions and a group fitness class. This will create some large change and essential positive stress to create the change your body needs. Your body needs to be placed under positive stress to make any changes so if you are doing the same exercises for the same amount of time every week you will not lose that last bit of weight!
Creating change and mixing up your routine is a great way to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and change both physically and mentally! If you have been stuck in a rut or have been doing the same routine for 6 months and can't lose that last bit of weight or can't increase your squat weight you need to create positive change!
